During the Christmas market in Bergen auf Rügen
Once again, the city museum is opening its doors as part of the Bergen Christmas market. In addition to a free visit to the permanent exhibition "From the Stone Age to the City", interested visitors can also immerse themselves in the special exhibition "Wanderlust for Rügen and Vilm - artistic views by Eugen Kucher, Hermann Hirzel and others".
On Friday at 4 pm, museum director Marika Emonds will guide visitors through the presentation of the high-quality replicas of the so-called "Blue Tooth Treasure". This early medieval silver hoard, which was discovered near Schaprode on the island of Rügen in 2018, captivates visitors with its oriental, western European and English coins as well as impressive jewelry elements. The coins of the Danish King Harald Bluetooth (reigned 958-986), which gave the deposit its popular name: "Bluetooth Treasure", are of particular interest. The tour also answers the question of why the costly silver objects were often willfully crushed and chopped up. The replicas on display are a representative selection from the original ensemble.
