A narrative solo in the Kulturhafen
Hans Castorp remained in a sanatorium for seven years, lost in the philosophical heights and the depths of interpersonal attraction and repulsion in Thomas Mann's epochal novel "The Magic Mountain". Meike Rötzer, founder of the "Erzählbuchverlag", achieves the impossible: she tells the entire work of the century in one evening - a brilliant play to listen to, an educational journey into the time before the First World War, a parable about the seductive power of visions of doom. And a mission of discovery at the same time: what does the text reveal about a present of crises and tipping points?
Meike Rötzer, born in 1971, had permanent engagements at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe and the Städtisch Bühnen Kiel. From 2008-2022 she was an editor for fiction at the renowned publishing house Matthes & Seitz Berlin. She is a narrator and author for radio features & audio books. In 2022 she founded the Erzählbuchverlag. In 2023 she was nominated for the German Audiobook Award in the category best interpreter.
