Once a year in September, the popular meeting of shanty choirs takes place in Zingst in honor of the local poet Martha Müller-Grählert.
In the immediate vicinity of the Baltic Sea, shanties handed down from sailing ships as well as modern sea shanties are performed by choirs from northern Germany and occasionally other parts of the country.
