Guitarist Mareille Merck, who originally hails from the rugged Baltic coast, has been living in Switzerland since 2016 and has earned herself a firm place in the local jazz scene. The musician, who has already shared the stage with greats such as John McLaughlin and Michael Leauge, interweaves characteristic influences from fingerstyle techniques and rocky realms with clear jazzy structures in a trio context.
The name of her formation and the title of her program, Larus, in turn refers to a creature typical of her home country and the entire North: the seagull. Making music together with Eva Klesse and Lisa Hoppe is like a free flight with significant baggage such as courage, a thirst for adventure, a willingness to take risks and, last but not least, trust.
