Songs with classical strings & string quintet
His first number 1 in the radio charts was 53 years ago and his very first album 50 years ago. A lot has happened since then. Dieter "Maschine" Birr, head and heart of the Puhdys from 1969 to 2016, can look back on almost six decades of success, during which more than 22 million records were sold, almost 5,000 concerts were played in 21 countries and around 500 songs were written. Many of them have become genuine classics, hits for several generations. The special thing: Even the break-up of the cult band did nothing to dampen Maschine's popularity, his concerts are still sold out and his solo albums have all landed in the top quarter of the official album charts, with his last two, "Große Herzen" (2023) and "Mein Weg" (2024), both reaching number 4.There are certainly a number of reasons for his decades of success. The passion, the musical craft, the ability to compose irresistible songs and write credible lyrics, the authenticity and approachability that has become rare, the constant interaction with the audience at eye level and, and, and... And certainly also the fact that Maschine never rested on his laurels, constantly readjusting the components of his work and always trying out new things without denying his roots. This still applies. Did anyone really expect the charismatic singer and musician to cut back just because he has now turned 80 and everything is going wonderfully well? And so Maschine (supposedly) pulls the next surprise out of his sleeve: From now on, Maschine will also be touring with a string quintet. If so many of his songs are already considered classics, you can also perform them in a classical style. Seriously: many of his songs - whether many of his hits or personal favorites - are perfectly suited to a classical setting, they surprise in their approach and unfold a very special magic in the arrangements.
