The 250th birthday of Caspar David Friedrich on September 5, 2024 marks the highlight of this year's celebrations surrounding the most famous painter of North German Romanticism. Just a stone's throw away from Friedrich's birthplace of Greifswald is the Ludwigsburg Palace and Estate. A companion of Friedrich's was born here in 1778: the officer, painter and educator Friedrich August von Klinkowström, who was repeatedly visited at Ludwigsburg by his painter friend Philipp Otto Runge from Wolgast. The 250th birthdays of Runge and Klinkowström are coming up in 2027 and 2028 respectively. The first construction phase of the fundamental renovation of Ludwigsburg Palace is already nearing completion in the fall of 2024. - Reason enough to meet in Ludwigsburg to look back on the past and look forward to the future.
