Using new material from the archives and Leni Riefenstahl's estate, Andres Veiel examines the complex relationship between the filmmaker and director of Nazi propaganda, who was celebrated for her aesthetic skills, and the Hitler regime. It oscillates between her glorified portrayal and incriminating evidence of her knowledge of the regime's atrocities. After the end of the war, Riefenstahl herself always denied that she had ever sympathized with the Nazis' misanthropic ideology. However, after her death in 2003, her estate finally revealed a more differentiated picture of Riefenstahl.
