Welcome to the twenties!
The Rostock & Warnemünde Tourist Board invites you to a musical afternoon in the Kurhausgarten Warnemünde.
"Welcome to the twenties, we sip the moonshine" is the inviting passage from Goldmeister's new album, which was released on August 14, 2022 by Schallkunst/Electrola. Chris Dunker and Phil Ohleyer from Goldmeister invite you back to this decade a century after the glorious 20s.
Since their debut album "Alles Gold" entered the top 30 of the German charts in 2018, the old-time jazz and swing of the Gatsby generation has a name again: GOLDMEISTER.
With their first album, Goldmeister were guests on various TV shows, including "Willkommen bei Carmen Nebel", on Andrea Kiewel's ZDF Fernsehgarten, they thrilled visitors at the Brandenburg Gate for the World Cup Fan Mile as well as at the same venue for the ZDF New Year's Eve Gala. Goldmeister have also performed with their band, the Ragtime Bandits and their pianist Lutz Krajenski, at numerous cultural and jazz festivals, such as the Mosel Music Festival. On their second album "Willkommen in den Zwanzigern!", the Goldmeister duo stick to the tried and tested: a mix of German hip-hop lyrics and 1920s jazz. But something is new: after Goldmeister set themselves the task on their first album of giving songs such as "Sie ist weg" by Fanta 4 or "Dickes B" by Seeed new melodies and thus creating a new interpretation of the songs, seven of the 12 songs on the new album are now written by Goldmeister themselves.
"It was a nice challenge," says Phil Ohleyer, "to write lyrics in a hip-hop style and then, as we did with the first album, to compose melodies for these hip-hop lyrics." "It feels really good to be in the studio singing your own songs. I can hardly wait to perform the new songs on stage. It's just going to be mega!" adds Chris Dunker. The choice of topics is particularly important to the two of them. "We're just pretty humorous guys who don't take ourselves too seriously. That's precisely why our own
that's why there's an extra dose of irony in our own lyrics. We want people to have fun with our music and make them laugh, dance and feel good," says Phil.
In their first single "Hipster", Goldmeister take on the hipster scene in Berlin or philosophize in "Bitte nicht stören" about the things a man doesn't want to hear from a woman. "Everything is meant with a wink, of course," emphasizes Chris Dunker with a mischievous smile. Her song "Moonshine" is a real homage to the Roaring Twenties. The listener is catapulted back to the golden age, especially musically. Two of the new songs "Am Morgen danach" and "Gier" are reminiscent of the smoky swing era with a glass of whisky in hand. Phil and Chris add with a grin: "We want to show our wide musical range with the new album. We can also swing".
In addition to the seven self-penned songs, Goldmeister, as with the first album, have not missed the opportunity to reinterpret well-known hip-hop tracks. And so "Bon Voyage" by Deichkind or "Rückenwind" by Thomas D. seem as if they were Goldmeister's own songs.
Goldmeister's second album is a centenary album and heralds the 2020s. With their album, the duo poses the question "What would the 1920s sound like 100 years later?". Goldmeister provide the answer with "Welcome to the twenties!".
