Lecture: Usedom's fishermen & the fishery
Lecture: Usedom's fishermen and fishing in the Achterwasser and the Baltic Sea
The history of fishing on Usedom goes back a long way.The first inhabitants of the Island of Usedom lived from fishing and made use of the rich waters around Usedom. They were adept
at making their own tools, including nets, bottom fishing rods and fish traps.
These craft skills were crucial to their livelihood and shaped the island's
culture. In the 19th century, fishing in the Baltic Sea experienced a boom, particularly due to the large shoals of herring. This abundance of fish offered many families the opportunity to move to the island and start a new life there. Look forward to an entertaining evening with Ingo Zander.
