The steamer WISMAR was one of two identical ships that the Deutsche Seereederei Rostock, founded in 1952, ordered from the Neptunwerft shipyard in Rostock. The 3000 t general cargo and bulk carrier was put into service in 1954 and sailed the seas for 11 years, mainly in the Levante service.
Dr. Rolf Strenziok sailed as an assistant and stoker on the steamer WISMAR until it was decommissioned and can report on how life worked between sailors, navigators and stokers.
