Lecture: "Greifswalder Oie, an island in the Baltic Sea"
Speaker: Mr. Ingo Zander
It is also known as the "Heligoland of the Baltic Sea". The Slavs called it "Holy Island" in 1291 when Duke Bogislav IV donated it to the city of Greifswald - hence its current name. The lighthouse was inaugurated in 1855. It is the only tower where the light turns to the left.
