Opera in three acts by Giuseppe Verdi / Harztheater

Libretto by Francesco Maria Piave based on the novel "The Lady of the Camellias" by Alexander Dumas (the Younger)

Paris 1848: The noble courtesan Violetta Valéry is beautiful, clever and warm-hearted - the whole of Paris is at her feet. But Violetta is suffering from tuberculosis and knows that she doesn't have long to live. Nevertheless, she embarks on an affair with the young Alfredo Germont, who has fallen madly in love with her. His love gives her new hope... Giuseppe Verdi wanted "new, grandiose, beautiful, varied and daring to the extreme" plots and ventured into contemporary material for the first time with "La Traviata", the successful novel "The Lady of the Camellias" by Alexandre Dumas (the Younger), which depicts the fate of the courtesan Marie Duplessis. This story of unexpected love in the face of the transience of life still touches us today. Verdi's music brings this story from the Parisian demimonde to life with great urgency and emotion.
