Lüül - Between the worlds
The Berlin singer-songwriter's latest album "Der stille Tanz" was awarded the German Record Critics' Prize. Now he is presenting it live. As a critical musician, he has delivered his musical statement on the situation in his song "Ich bin die Freie Rede".
Here is the laudation for the record award:
"For fifty years, Lüül has been walking between Krautrock (Ash Ra Tempel), wonderful world music (17 Hippies) and modern songwriting. His voice is distinctive, his compositions are never arbitrary, and they are superbly interpreted by a fantastic band, and the lyrics are sometimes poetic, sometimes biting. This is also the case with "Der stille Tanz", with reflections on the coronavirus pandemic, which brought Lüül, the globetrotter, to a standstill ("Die Welt hält an"). Melancholy meets world-weariness without lapsing into larmoyance. On the contrary: this musical jack-of-all-trades manages the feat of entertaining us at a high level. For the German Record Critics' Jury: Hans Reul 2022"
Lüül's songs inspire with their musical diversity and captivating charm. They are idiosyncratic and authentic, and presented with Berlin chutzpah. Lüül masterfully manages the balancing act between depth and humor, everyday madness and moving moments. Above all, this is good entertainment!
