Who was Klockenschauster August Mercker?
The clockmaker lived in Treptower Straße in Neubrandenburg from 1830, where he lived until his death and where he also had his clockmaker's workshop. A well-known original in the town, he could speak High and Low German in the same sentence, which was great fun for him. Fritz Reuter was one of his best friends. In a light Rotspon mood, they liked to sit together in the pub in Treptower Straße or in the Fürstenkeller, and many an episode slipped out of Mercker's mouth, which could be found in Fritz Reuter's work "Ut mine Stromtied" in the character of Unkel Bräsig.
