Solo theater evening with Benjamin Kernen
A man with a mysterious suitcase enters a sparse room, possibly a dosshouse
, and begins to recount his journey through Germany.
As he narrates, interrupting and joking with the audience, he opens the suitcase
and reveals more and more things that make traveling easier. It starts harmlessly with
a candle and a candlestick and develops further and further. Diaries, travel maps,
etc., even cooking utensils are unpacked and while he tells the story, a simple
supper is prepared and shared with the audience. Finally, the narrator takes a whole
sleeping arrangement out of the suitcase, gets ready for bed and turns in for the night with the last sentences
.
But the mysterious suitcase offers even more:
An opera foil is worked into the lid of the suitcase. While the narrator recounts his
"then" journey, a rear projection reflects film footage of the same
travel stops in present-day Germany. In this way, the past and present merge into
a unique travelogue full of poetry.
