Did you know that Dömitz Fortress is an important habitat for amphibians, wild bees and bats? These three species groups are the focus of the "Dömitz Fortress Habitat" event. Three experts will take you on a tour of the wildlife in and around the fortress.
Florian Bibelriether from Amphi Consult will shed light on the amphibians in the fortress moat, in particular the fire-bellied toad. Jörn Bornemann from Entomologischer Verein Mecklenburg e.V. will talk about insects on and around Dömitz Fortress and invites volunteers in particular to get involved in building so-called "wild bee monuments" in the coming year. Simone Schneider from the Schaalsee-Elbe Biosphere Reserve Office will focus on the bats at the fortress. The event is aimed at people who are interested in the native species in and around Dömitz Fortress, as well as those who can imagine supporting the protection of the fire-bellied toad and insects on a voluntary basis. After the Schaalsee-Elbe Biosphere Reserve Office released young fire-bellied toads into the wild in the fortress moat in 2023 and 2024, the aim in 2025 is to map the animals by means of so-called "interrogation". The reason for the event is the "Dömitz Fortress Habitat" project, which is funded by the NUE Foundation and the Heinz Sielmann Foundation. As part of the project, the second section of the fortress moat is to be renaturalized and wild bee nesting aids are to be created.
Registration is not required.
If you are coming from the west, please note that the B 195 is currently closed to motor traffic in the area of the Steinschleuse bridge. The detour is via the L 04 (Hohe Brücke Dömitz), so that it is possible to approach the town hall from the east.
