From November 28, 2024, the historic market square and fish market in the middle of Greifswald's old town will once again become a Christmas market. Even though it is one of the smaller markets in the north, it offers everything you could hope for: Three weeks of sweets and mulled wine, peace and contemplation, but also hustle and bustle and entertainment, Santa Claus consultation hours and offers to buy presents. Together with the festively decorated town center, the market with its 35 exhibitors sets the mood for the Advent and Christmas season. Festively decorated wooden stalls and twinkling lights around the 16-metre-high Christmas tree blend into the medieval brick ensemble of the old town. The Christmas pyramid, the fairytale forest with its stories, the historic carousel and the Ferris wheel make children's eyes light up.
The fish market is transformed into a cozy village. Here, guests can make themselves comfortable away from the hustle and bustle with regional delicacies by the fire bowl.
Unique in the north: There has been space for a wooden Advent church at the Greifswald Christmas market for thirteen years.
On the Advent weekends, a total of 60 manufactories, studios and workshops from the region once again attract visitors to the historic town hall cellar. Most of the products on offer are local. From handmade arts and crafts to regional delicacies - the focus here is on sustainable production and high quality.
As in previous years, the Christmas lighting in the city center and at the Christmas market will once again festively illuminate the streets and squares. The lights have already been converted to energy-saving LEDs.
