On these days, daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Greenpeace Action Days will take place at the OZEANEUM. Museum guests can look forward to information on the topic of "deep sea mining".
The digitization of our society and industry is accompanied by an increased demand for raw materials. However, this increased demand is not currently leading to increased recycling of basic materials; instead, a gold-digger atmosphere is developing in the world's oceans. Mining companies want to use huge machines to extract mineral raw materials from the seabed of the deep sea. But the depths of our oceans hide unique ecosystems full of amazing creatures that can cope with the darkness, cold and enormous pressure. The deep sea is not a lunar landscape devoid of life, however, but a very special habitat. No industrial mining is taking place yet, but the starting signal from the International Seabed Authority could come as early as June 2023! Greenpeace has been protesting against the threat of deep-sea mining for several years and is trying to prevent it.
During the Greenpeace action days in front of and at the Ozeaneum in Stralsund, the independent environmental protection organization will give visitors an understanding of the importance of and threats to the oceans. Gain exciting insights into the work of the organization during discussions and help to protect the oceans!
