Every year in the fall, from September to October, the National Park of Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft offers a fascinating natural spectacle. The area around the Barther Bodden up to the Rügen Bock region is one of the largest crane resting places in Central Europe. At peak times in early to mid-October, around 80,000 cranes rest here on their flight south to replenish their energy reserves for the long flight to their winter quarters.
