Manfred Scharnberg photographed the transformation in MV, after reunification and today
Vernissage 17.5.2025 4 pm
From one day to the next, almost everything changed for people in eastern Germany after reunification. Manfred Scharnberg, who captured these harsh upheavals as a photojournalist in the early 1990s, has now revisited the same places in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. These are Schönberg, Rostock, Barth and Anklam. The result is two independent reportages 30 years apart, which are juxtaposed in the exhibition "From today to tomorrow". Although it is also a historical retrospective, it is above all an exciting look at the changes in our society today.
There is a better infrastructure, new opportunities and positive moods - but also negative effects of change. Photographer Manfred Scharnberg does not leave out today's social issues. The unusual presentation of the exhibition is like a multimedia magazine. Short texts and captions explain the background to the more than one hundred images. Visitors can listen to statements by some of the protagonists on their own smartphones. These audio takes by radio journalist Wolfgang Heidelk enrich the photographic impressions with a personal acoustic note.
The exhibition, shown for the first time at the Kulturhaus Mestlin, was sponsored by Bild Kunst Kulturwerk, as well as by the Landeszentrale für politische Bildung MV in cooperation with the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung MV.
