Exhibition on the prehistory/early history of Rügen and the history of Bergen on Rügen
The Bergen auf Rügen Town Museum is located in one of the baroque abbey buildings in the monastery courtyard and invites visitors of all ages on a historical excursion. The first floor is dedicated to the prehistory and early history of Rügen. The tour takes visitors from the Stone Age megalithic tombs to the metal remains of the Bronze Age and the Slavic temple castle of Arkona. On the upper floor, selected examples shed light on Bergen's town history, which is inextricably linked to the founding of the nunnery in 1193 by the Slavic prince Jaromar I. The former medieval monastery and church treasures include a richly embroidered linen cloth with its original colored silk threads and a magnificent gilded chalice, a replica of which enriches the permanent exhibition. Guided tours are available by appointment.
The current hygiene rules continue to apply throughout the Bergen auf Rügen City Museum, i.e. the obligation to wear a mask and the obligation to provide proof of a daily negative corona test. (Exceptions are fully vaccinated persons whose last required single vaccination was at least 14 days ago and recovered persons whose previous corona infection was at least 28 days and a maximum of 6 months ago. The same applies to recovered persons who have already received a vaccination dose. https://www.mv-corona.de/faq-uebersicht)
