Dance theater meets new circus

German Dance Company meets Overhead Project (Cologne)

Unique in Neustrelitz!

Pre-premiere in the ballet hall of the Deutsche Tanzkompanie.

Everything in motion - that is the motto of the dance evening with which Overhead Project and the Deutsche Tanzkompanie will present themselves together. Two very different companies that have been linked for several years in a guest performance collaboration thanks to unique funding from the German Federal Cultural Foundation.

Moving and floating means leaving "safe terrain" and getting involved. When acrobatics and dance meet and "merge", new things are tried out and the familiar is looked at anew. This guarantees an evening that is as varied as it is unique, combining dance theater and contemporary circus and acrobatics at the highest level.

Excerpts from the current production "Blueprint" by Overhead Project and the new dance piece by the German Dance Company "SCHWEBEN" (premiere on November 1) will be shown. The third part shows an encounter between the two ensembles, choreographed by Tim Behren (Overhead Project), which also deals with aspects of being in motion and floating.

About "Blueprint": In this extraordinary pas de deux, two performers from Overhead Project move through human patterns of encounter and intimacy. With humor and an unusual repertoire of movements, they traverse a playing field of trust in order to strike the right note with each other. "Blueprint" plays with gestures of invitation, confrontation and provocation. It is a pas de deux in which contemporary circus and dance keep pace with each other. The pas de deux, a dance duet, usually marks the climax and signature of a piece in the classical sense. In "Blueprint", the Cologne-based company Overhead Project literally turns existing ideas of the danced duo on their head.

The two virtuosos test the limits of their physical strength to the point of exhaustion and skillfully direct our gaze through the stage space. They glide over the movements and body parts that unconsciously shape our interpretations of people.

Half you, half me":

Floating states are considered insecure and are often portrayed negatively. In contrast, Torsten Händler says: "Floating with happiness is the most beautiful form of transportation. Maybe on cloud nine, or like in the theater with the help of a bench? Whatever, love can make you float. But it also happens that you hit rock bottom again very quickly, usually unintentionally triggered by third, fourth, fifth ... parties. Giving up is not an option, so the only thing left to do is to fight for your love. And that is happiness, on which you can then float together." The renowned choreographer and former artistic director of the Deutsche Tanzkompanie explores this state of limbo with the ensemble and wants to make us float - with humor. With "Schweben", the audience can expect a captivating and very emotional piece that is not entirely serious, but also whimsical and makes you smile.
