Music is timeless in particular due to the fact that it is bound to time. Music can only be grasped in the course of a period of time. It doesn't matter whether it's a jingle or the longest piece in music history, which will take 639 years to perform.
When the last concert of the 39th Schönberg Music Summer bears such a title, it reminds us that even the most beautiful time passes, but that something remains. Because music moves us, and this movement continues in body and soul.
The performance by Latvian Voices, the "voices of Latvia", is once again a trip to northern Europe, and yet close by, because Latvia, like Mecklenburg, lies on the Baltic Sea. The music of Latvian Voices combines Latvian folk songs and the world-famous Latvian choral sound with original compositions and arrangements, especially those penned by artistic director Laura Jēkabsone. With their clear and powerful voices, the six singers clothe Latvia's cultural heritage in modern a cappella sounds and carry the name of the "singing country" out into the world.
In their acoustic program "Timeless", the Latvian Voices use Baltic folklore, transcriptions of instrumental music, original songs and a cappella versions of well-known pop melodies to show that ensemble singing in particular is timeless. After all, the human voice is the oldest and one of the most incredible musical instruments of all time, as well as the "Instrument of the Year 2025". So we have come full circle - "Voice Yourself" was at the very beginning, now we are one round further and are looking forward to the 40th Schönberg Music Summer!
