Concert
The fiddler is the player of a fiddle, which is a symbol for musical instruments. And the focus of the "Fidl'air" ensemble's program is the instrumental song, the "air".
They play pieces from the "44 Duos for 2 Violins", to which Andreas Wiebecke-Gottstein has added chords and which he has brought to song length through repetitions, voice swaps and the addition of improvised parts. The result is a mix of modern classical music, klezmer, jazz and folk. This style continues in the second part of the program, which focuses on political songs that Andreas Wiebecke-Gottstein has alienated and transformed by using rhythms and scales from klezmer music. You can discover melodies such as "Internationale", "Die Gedanken sind frei" and "Ach du lieber Augustin" (is that a political song?) from the German song tradition, but also melodies from the Yiddish tradition, which were (are) often very political.
Andreas Wiebecke-Gottstein (keyboard fiddle)
