Homage to our home town
The members of MV-Foto e.V. know their Schwerin quite well. Countless pictures from all corners of the city, from a wide variety of perspectives and angles have been taken, exposed, printed, published and archived.
Schwerin is beautiful, no question about it. So taking beautiful pictures of a beautiful city should not be the challenge for the new exhibition of the Fotofreunde.
On the wall of one of Schwerin's oldest half-timbered houses in Engen Gasse, the words "Sn is ein Kaff!" are spray-painted. The objection was not long in coming and a true patriot wrote "wunderschönes" in red pen and in the appropriate place. Now it reads: Schwerin is a beautiful town! The guiding theme and motto for the new exhibition had been found.
The special view
Seeing Schwerin differently than usual was the task we set ourselves. No postcard views that everyone already knows were called for. Nor were they looking for the kind of second-by-second pictures that are probably on every cell phone a million times over. With the support of landscape architect Matthias Proske, monument conservator Jörg Kirchner and city historian Dr. Jakob Schwichtenberg, the photographers went on the hunt and put together a tribute to their hometown.
The exhibition can be viewed from August 25 to October 27 in the MV Photo Gallery at the Schwerin Adult Education Center, Puschkinstraße 13 under the ambiguous title "Eyes on Schwerin". Gallery hours Thu - Sun from 3 to 6 pm. Admission is free.
