The Heimatstübchen Ludwigslust, Schlossstraße 46 is showing a new exhibition entitled "The Ludwigslust Dragoon Regiment" from Saturday, May 27, 2023 to November 1, 2023.
Between 1837 and 1919, Ludwigslust was home to the garrison of the 1st Grand Ducal Mecklenburg Dragoon Regiment No. 17. The more than 600 members of the regiment were spread across three barracks in the town. There were also stables for the horses, riding arenas, a guardhouse, an officers' mess, a military hospital and the ammunition depot.
The presence of the soldiers had a significant impact on everyday life in the town and also influenced trade and commerce. Many inhabitants were proud of their dragoons.
This small exhibition uses historical photographs, pictures and material evidence to remind visitors of this episode in the town's history.
The exhibition is open until the end of the year on the last weekend of each month on Saturdays and Sundays from 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm.
Outside these opening hours, a visit is possible by appointment by telephone
at 01743346978.
