Exhibition

Carl Knauf (1893-1944)

Exhibition duration: September 21, 2024 to March 30, 2025

Through euroart, the association of European artists' colonies, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, Ahrenshoop is connected to various artists' colonies. In cooperation with the Kunstkaten Ahrenshoop, the art museum is dedicating itself to the artists' colony of Nidden and is showing a personal exhibition of the late Impressionist landscape painter Carl Knauf for the first time. He studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy and lived in Nidden from 1931 until his death in 1944. Landscape, water and the interplay of light are characteristic of his work, which allows the unique nature to appear perfect without the human figure in the picture. The dunes, lagoon and spa boats are depicted with great intensity and reveal Knauf's love of the East Prussian landscape.
