Gabriel Fauré's Requiem is the key work among the French master's sacred compositions. The work was already a success with audiences during the composer's lifetime and remains so to this day. This Requiem is unlike any other: The focus here is not on a dramatic "Dies Irae", but on consolation and hope. With his setting of the Latin Mass for the Dead, Gabriel Fauré created a work of elegiac gentleness.
