Reading and discussion - polenmARkT 2024
The reading and discussion with Ernst Pradel about his book "Dort im Osten, dort irgendwo" offers an impressive opportunity to get to know the diversity of East German life stories at first hand. Pradel's work sheds light on personal experiences and social developments over decades - from the 1930s to the 2000s. The insights that Pradel provides into East German identity and the formative phases of life in the GDR and in reunified Germany are particularly fascinating.
His book is strongly rooted in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and not only describes his own life story, but also takes up the history of his family, whose roots go back to Silesia and Austria. Places such as Waren an der Müritz and Rostock are central to these memories. In addition, the work was created entirely in Mecklenburg - from writing to printing.
The event is being held in cooperation with the German-Polish Society (DPG) Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, an organization that has been promoting German-Polish exchange and creating a network across politics, culture and business since 1986.
The event is an excellent opportunity to get to know the field of tension between history and memory and to understand the different perspectives on GDR history and East German biographies.
