Since 2003, Messina has been principal clarinet in the Orchestre National de France under Daniele Gatti and has also appeared as a soloist with renowned orchestras and in various chamber music ensembles on major stages around the world. Patrick Messina has won numerous international competitions and is much in demand as a soloist for contemporary music and world premieres. Together with the Ensemble Orchestral de Paris under the direction of Olari Elts, for example, he performed the world premiere of the clarinet concerto "Autumn Pictures" by the French-Lebanese composer Bechara El Khoury at the Chatelet Theatre in 2010. In the same year, Patrick Messina was appointed visiting professor at the Royal Academy of Music in London.
