Dance performance by Anne Retzlaff; lecture by Dr. Birgit Dalbajewa
The artist Edmund Kesting (1892-1970) was closely associated with Ahrenshoop and spent a lot of time in his Ahrenshoop house. From 1920 onwards, he mainly created constructivist and avant-garde paintings - inspired by Kurt Schwitters, László Moholy-Nagy and other artists from the "Sturm" group. A ban on painting and exhibitions and the removal of some of his works from museums as "degenerate" did not affect his photographic works, on which he increasingly focused from then on. His highly experimental approach to the medium of photography for the conventions of the time and his photographs of expressive dancers inspired the dancer and choreographer Anne Retzlaff to create her own performance. She studied stage dance and choreography at the Palucca School. The dance performance is a joint project of Künstlerhaus Lukas and the Ahrenshoop spa administration.
The dance performance will be followed by a lecture by Dr. Birgit Dalbajewa from Dresden with the topic "Edmund Kesting and Hans Kinder in the circle of Dresden artists. In comparison: abstract and figurative positions of the 1920s and 1960s.
