A concert with films for open and closed eyes
In their concert performance between jazz and Pink Floyd, Wolfgang Schmiedt (guitar) and Jörg Huke (trombone) play music to two experimental films: Homo Erectus is based on 180 breathing sounds, Homo Sapiens is based on heartbeats. Both films are part of the Echo Homo trilogy by musician, composer and producer Wolfgang Schmiedt, which has won a total of around 35 international awards, was included in the Official Selection at the Venice Under the Stars 2024 international film festival and was also recently screened at the Schwerin Film Festival.
Wolfgang Schmiedt and Jörg Huke have shared a musical affinity since studying together at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin. In the unusual combination of guitar and trombone, they played in the premier league of GDR jazz with unusual sounds and artistic handling of their instruments. Their joint debut album XXX-000 - Musik zu einem imaginären Film was probably the last Amiga record, released shortly before the fall of the Berlin Wall. The two musicians work together in university teaching, on studio productions and large-scale projects and at national and international jazz festivals.
The fascination of the chamber music dialog continues to this day: with electronics or purely acoustic, always virtuosic and with musical wit. The program The circle of life had its world premiere in 2024 at the Theater am Rand and will now also be heard in Rostock.
