35 years after the peaceful revolution - How do we shape the civil debate without strengthening the extremes?

On the 35th anniversary of the peaceful revolution, we look back and ahead. What does the legacy of the civil rights movements of 1989 mean for social protests today? What democratic values are currently guiding citizens when discussing problems? Do we need a Wende 2.0 or are free riders trying to hijack the legacy of 1989?

Whether peace in Europe, arms deliveries to Ukraine, migration, agricultural diesel, energy prices, wind turbines or tax issues - how do we shape the civil debate without strengthening the extremes?

A film screening "The peaceful revolution 1989 in Neubrandenburg - portraits of contemporary witnesses", media workshop of Latücht e. V. followed by a panel discussion is planned. Petra Hoffmann and Bettina Kalisch, contemporary witnesses from back then, and Dr. Constanze Jaiser (Wir für Demokratie - Bündnis für Zusammenhalt) and Marcel Spittel (Queer NB) are invited. We look forward to exciting discussions with the audience. From 8 pm, we cordially invite you to a buffet and informal discussions in the Latücht e. V. premises.

The event will be accompanied by our speaker Dr. Peter Neumann.
Peter Neumann, born in Neubrandenburg in 1987, studied philosophy, politics and economics in Jena and Copenhagen. He is the author of "Jena 1800: The Republic of Free Spirits" and "Tierra del Fuego. A journey into the long century of utopias 1883-2020". He also works as a philosopher and editor at DIE ZEIT. In 2021, Peter Neumann was a fellow of the German Academy Rome Villa Massimo at Casa Baldi. He lives in Berlin.
