Dinner for One - how it all began
Comedy by Volker Heymann
Directed by Angelika Zacek
With Angela Schlabinger, Lydia Wilke and Peer Roggendorf
No birthday has been celebrated as often as Miss Sophie's 90th with her butler James.
The playwright Volker Heymann has written a full-length play with and around the legendary sketch Dinner for One.
A theater director holds auditions for the roles of Miss Sophie and James the butler. Elvira and Klaus, an unspeakable disaster duo who live out a ludicrous profile neurosis on stage, apply. Roles and private lives get wildly mixed up. One moment James and Miss Sophie are in blissful harmony, the next a quarrelling couple who can no longer control themselves. A tough nut to crack for the director. But in the end, everyone pulls themselves together and performs the Dinner for One sketch as we know it from television. However, the director can't prevent the two neurotics from getting a little out of hand ...
