With their program "Di Yidishe Neshome", Alan Bern and Mark Kovnatskiy invite you on a touching journey through the soul of Yiddish music.
The 2025 season in the Old Synagogue traditionally begins with Jewish music and klezmer. For the New Year's concert on Sunday, January 5, 2025, the Museum Hagenow has been able to attract two internationally renowned virtuosos, Alan Bern and Mark Kovnatskiy. With their program "Di Yidishe Neshome", they invite you on a touching journey through the soul of Yiddish music.
Alan Bern has been a protagonist of the international klezmer revival for 40 years. The pianist and accordionist has played with Itzhak Perlman and the band Brave Old World. As founder and artistic director of Yiddish Summer Weimar, the most important festival of this genre in Germany, he has left a lasting mark on the musical landscape. Mark Kovnatskiy is a violinist, singer, composer, lecturer and expert in Yiddish dance. He is at the forefront of a generation that has preserved and developed the sensitive playing style of the old klezmorim for the present day. The concert starts at 7 pm.
