Daniel Karlsson will bring jazz to the Piano Days in a solo performance at the Kunsthalle Kühlungsborn on May 3.
Karlsson began playing the piano at the age of four and studied music at Skurups Folk High School from 1992 to 1994. He then studied at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. He now lives on the island of Runmarö in the Stockholm archipelago.
Karlsson became known for his work in the trio Oddjob (with Goran Kajfeš and Per "Ruskträsk" Johansson) and in the Magnus Öström band. He has also worked with Fredrik Norén, Andreas Pettersson, Mikael Sörensen, Till Brönner, Nils Landgren, Viktoria Tolstoy and Rigmor Gustafsson, as well as with the Norrbotten Big Band and Swedish radio jazz groups. The second album Fusion for Fish, which was released in August 2014, received several awards - the Jazzkatten as Jazz Group of the Year 2014, the Gyllene Skivan and a Grammis for Best Jazz Production. The album At the Feel Free Falafel, released in 2016, also received positive reviews. The fourth release Ding Dong was nominated for a Swedish Grammis for Best Jazz Album in 2018. In the same year, No. 5, the compilation So Far and 2019's Fuse Number Eleven were released.
