Interactive tactile exhibition at the Ernst Barlach Museums Güstrow
Whether round or angular, narrow or compact, curvy, long or small: the human body is individual and extraordinary in its variety of forms. It is also a recurring theme of great interest to artists and is interpreted and depicted in very different ways.
The interactive tactile exhibition SHAPE! allows visitors to the Ernst Barlach Museen Güstrow to approach the various representations of the body in sculpture in a sensual way for the first time. Separated only by thin gloves, the works on display can be grasped with one's own hands in the truest sense of the word. Organic, block-like or abstract forms, rough or smooth surfaces, hard edges or soft volumes offer a wide variety of tactile experiences. A special highlight is a darkened room in which selected works by Barlach can be explored without any visual distraction, using only a keen sense of touch.
However, SHAPE! does not only mean form or shape, but can also be understood as an invitation to understand one's own body as a sculptural form. As such, it can be designed or used performatively. With the help of fluorescent colors and costumes, one's own body can be imaginatively exaggerated and restaged in a black light cabinet.
With low pedestals and creative instructions for individual exhibition tours, SHAPE! offers a unique experience for the whole family.
The exhibition is an extended transfer from the Lehmbruck Museum, Duisburg.
