CROW's paintings live from the devotional power of melancholy and other feelings that are concealed within them.

CROW is a German artist who was born in 1970. He toured numerous countries as a musician before devoting himself entirely to contemporary visual art and moving to Shanghai and Tokyo. In China, CROW met the GHAO Brothers, whose works are highly charged with political and social nuances. They also developed a close friendship.

In 2020, the self-taught painter, musician, author, photographer and performance artist moved back to Germany, where he worked in his studio in Bamberg.

During his time in Asia, he created large-format paintings and drawings, photographs and installations in which the artist explores the human condition and explores it in his works.

The series of works BUTOH- learn to see with the body is inspired by the performance of Butoh dancers. In these paintings and drawings, he releases a particular moment from the frozen style of dance and liberates its power. A kind of return to true presence. For a short time. Only to be trapped in the picture again. It is a whimsical journey that deliberately defies straightforward thinking and makes what is revealed intuitively tangible.

CROW's paintings thrive on the devotional power of melancholy and other feelings that are concealed within them. He thus follows the concept that great art requires great suffering and that the enjoyment of art implicitly means sharing in this suffering.

His style is characterized by a harmonious use of figurative elements and very strong brushstrokes on several levels. He deconstructs his subject and emphasizes its three-dimensional qualities.

He uses the same technique in his photographs, which allow a smooth transition into his mixed media works, and hidden secrets revealed in the prints become impressive structures in the images to reconstruct something in its visibility.

CROW's installations stage a metamorphic search in relation to human development in its roots and reflect its present existence in it. His installations open up a field of vision for mankind's dwindling connection to nature and the careless way in which we treat the foundations of our lives as a result. open up a field of vision for mankind's dwindling connection to nature and the careless way in which we treat the foundations of our lives as a result.

After "Tales of Dying Butterflies" a poetry volume, CROW will publish his second book "COU-RAGE" in May 2024. In impressive multimedia performances, CROW combines his own poetry from song lyrics, reading and music, which are determined by random processes.

CROW's works are represented in numerous private collections and museums.
