Kim Andre Arnesen Magnificat, songs from the movie "The Children of Monsieur Mathieu" and others with Felizia Frenzel (soprano), children's choir, youth choir, cantata choir, St. Georgen cantata orchestra, Prof. Michael Schütze (organ), conductor: KMD Christiane Drese
The intention of the Norwegian composer, born in Trondheim in 1980, for his Magnificat is to set Mary's song of praise from the Gospel of Luke as a musical prayer for the sick and poor and as a song of hope for all those in distress. With his music, he empathizes with what a poor young woman must have felt when she was told by the angel Gabriel that she would give birth to the Son of God: Amazement, gratitude, joy and hope. She, the seemingly insignificant one, now experiences herself as the seen one, entrusted with a meaningful task.
The internationally renowned Arnesen, himself a singer in a boys' choir since the age of 10, is particularly well known for his choral music. He writes in an accessible melodic style, with a rich expressive palette. In doing so, he repeatedly creates echoes of the musical tradition. Like Handel in his "Messiah", he chooses E minor as the starting key for his Magnificat. Timeless divine presence shines through Gregorian passages. Luminous, spherical sounds open the heavens wide.
