After her divorce, the young architect Franziska Linkerhand decides to move to a provincial town for a year. In doing so, she forgoes a fast-track career and further collaboration with her professor and mentor. But Franziska is a maximalist. She rigorously defends her claim to reconcile ideal and reality. In the small town, she joins a collective whose boss, Schafheutlin, has already capitulated to the constraints of practice. Conflicts are inevitable.
The novel "Franziska Linkerhand" is the main work of the author Brigitte Reimann, who died young and was unable to finish the novel.
was unable to finish the novel. It was published posthumously in 1974, one year after Reimann's death. The film by director Lothar Warneke features a prominent cast including Simone Frost, Dietrich Körner and Hermann Beyer. It has won several awards.
