Easy-going summer comedy about over-ambitious parents and a spoiled son with a convincing cast
Germany 2023, written, directed, edited by Alireza Golafshan, length: 109 min.
DA: Moritz Bleibtreu, Laura Tonke, Valentin Thatenhorst, David Kross and others.
After their divorce, ambitious lawyers Marion and Andi still consider themselves model parents for their eleven-year-old son Milan. Everything is precisely mapped out, organized and clearly defined, until real life intervenes. The school has asked the seemingly well-coordinated separating parents for a meeting because Milan's school performance and well-being leave a lot to be desired. The teachers point to considerable deficits in the parents' childcare system. There are also misunderstandings and overlapping dates when it comes to vacation planning, as a result of which Andi, Marion and Milan involuntarily travel together to the posh vacation resort in Apulia - with Marion's new lover Robin in tow.
With this director, it's hardly surprising that things don't go well. But it's fun to watch this over-the-top comedy. Not only because Tonke and Bleibtreu harmonize as the enlightened and yet completely helpless parents and shine in the dialogues, but also because the director succeeds in addressing the idiocy of overambitious parents.
