Once again this year, the Dargun Christmas market in the monastery and castle grounds on Saturday, December 7, is intended to get people in the mood for a contemplative Christmas season, cozy winter hours and the upcoming festive season.
On Saturday, December 7, the traditional Christmas market will take place in the grounds of the monastery and castle complex from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is intended to get you in the mood for a contemplative Christmas season, cozy winter hours and the upcoming festive season. From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., you can buy Christmas presents from the many market stalls in the inner courtyard, in front of the monastery and castle grounds and in the monastery church, and of course sample a variety of delicacies. On offer are, among other things: Waffles, crêpes, lard pastries, quark balls, cakes, bread from the wood-fired oven, pancakes, candied fruit, chips, barbecued food, smoked fish & fish rolls, flamed salmon, roast pork & pork loin, pork & beef on a spitMoinkballs, chili con carne, various ostrich dishes, kale with smoked ostrich slices, chicken, ribs and knuckle of pork from the barbecue spit, schnitzel rolls and of course all kinds of mulled wine and other hot drinks.
The Dargun forestry office traditionally offers the sale of Christmas trees. The day will be opened at 11 a.m. by the Dargun Trombone Choir in the inner courtyard of the monastery and castle grounds. The sales stand of the MV central cheese dairy will also open at 11 am. On offer are Edam and Gouda with a total of almost 2 tons of cheese in 3-kg wheels. The minstrels from the north "Tancredo and Lothar" will be on the festival grounds all day, playing handmade music.
Another performance by the trombone choir is planned for 2 pm. The children of Kita FreiRaum have prepared a Christmas program, which they will perform in the inner courtyard at 2:30 pm. At 3:15 pm, the Malchin Schalmeien Kapelle will provide a great atmosphere on the festival square. The performance will take place in front of the monastery and castle grounds. It will be really atmospheric from 4 pm when the Dargun hunting horn players perform their program in the inner courtyard. Afterwards, at around 4:30 pm, the highlight of the Christmas market will be the mulled wine competition. A jury will conduct a taste test to determine which mulled wine is the tastiest this year. The winner will then receive the mayor's cup.
In front of the monastery and castle grounds, a children's carousel awaits the many young visitors to the Christmas market and you can warm up at the large fire bowl of the Dargun fire department and listen to the crackling of the fire.
From 2 p.m., we all await Santa Claus in the inner courtyard of the Dargun monastery and castle complex with lots of little surprises.
The 29th annual exhibition of the Dargun Monday Painters will be on display all day in the exhibition room in the central risalit. The Dargun monastery store is also open during the Christmas market and offers many regional products and specialties.
