- Closing event of the Literature Week 2025 -

From the first third of the 19th century, railroads, which had initially served as a means of transportation for industry, became a common means of transport and travel throughout Europe. Due to the new speed of the mechanical means of transportation, the natural world began to shrink more and more and changed the experience of space and time. Some contemporaries of the time not only celebrated the rapid accessibility of distant places by rail, but also saw trains as technical guarantors of international understanding, progress and peace. Others, however, saw the fast, relatively smooth glide as a loss.

In the staged reading "Spurwechsel", literary quotations about train journeys, railroad lines and stations in Eastern Europe are presented by the actor Wolfgang Wagner, supplemented and linked by cultural-historical commentaries by the author Roswitha Schieb.

Participants

The author Roswitha Schieb has already published a series of literary and cultural-historical travel books, including the "Literary Travel Guide to Wroclaw", the "Literary Travel Guide to the Bohemian Spa Triangle" and "Every Second Berliner. Schlesische Spuren an der Spree", published by the German Cultural Forum for Eastern Europe.

The actor Wolfgang Wagner has worked for over 30 years on various stages, in film and television and as a dubbing artist and radio play narrator.
