An art exhibition with works by art teacher and painter Wiltrud Giese from the Island of Rügen
"Anyone can paint, you just have to look closely," were the words of art teacher and painter Wiltrud Giese (1941-2020).
For decades, Wiltrud Giese inspired pupils at the Gingster and Samtens schools with her varied art lessons. Under her guidance, pupils painted scenes from Jules Verne's novel "Captain Nemo" all over a stairwell at the Samtens school. On the exterior façade of the school's boiler house, she painted giant cranes with her pupils. As Wiltrud Giese was also a spirited German teacher, she combined her two school subjects wherever possible.
At the same time, she had made a name for herself among art lovers on Rügen as a tireless and experimental painter. Wiltrud Giese impressed her audience with pictures of the cliffs of Rügen, wild and romantic beaches, city silhouettes, small houses and farms, industrial plants, plants, animals and familiar people. In doing so, she was able to draw on numerous working techniques that she had acquired during her art studies in Berlin. The exhibition provides an insight into her varied work.
