Every era is reflected in its music, bundled as if through a burning glass. This also applies to the phase of "real socialism" on German soil - the period of the GDR from 1949 to 1990.
The hopes and failures, the expectations and disappointments, the brief awakening and the long agony of this social experiment are also reflected in the music of the youth and young adults.
Rock musicians in particular had to learn that independence and creativity were only in demand if they conformed to the requirements of the ruling SED. Opportunists were given every opportunity, critical and non-conformist spirits were reprimanded and even banned and arrested.
In its two-hour program, the "Duo Zeitlos" offers a journey through the "popular music" of the GDR from the early 60s to its end. In the beginning, GDR bands mainly covered western songs. After beat music was ostracized by the SED at the "cultural plenum" in 1965 as "western" and "negative-decadent", independent GDR rock music was inevitably created. In addition to many a schmaltzy song, it also produced numerous "eternal" songs. Rarities from the early years await you as well as songs and stories of beneficiaries, conformists and opponents of the SED system.
"Duo Zeitlos" - that's Jörg Schliephake and Volker Höffer from M-V, hobby musicians with a professional passion for history and who were young themselves in the GDR.
