from the graphic collection of the University of Rostock
The exhibition focuses on three artists from the art collections of the University of Rostock, who at first glance appear to have nothing to do with each other, yet share a common element:
Max Beckmann, a central figure of the so-called interwar period and one of the most influential German painters of the 20th century.
Joachim John, the draughtsman-poet who made a name for himself in the GDR and later in reunified Germany and found a source of inspiration in Beckmann.
Bernhard Heisig, one of the most important representatives of the Leipzig School, who saw his oeuvre in the direct tradition of Beckmann and whose birthday will be celebrated for the hundredth time in March 2025.
