Bats the unknown creatures in our landscape. In order to get a better picture of the bat species that occur in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the nature parks began recording bats in the most diverse habitats using listening boxes a good seven years ago. Other National Natural Landscapes have followed suit. Exciting data sets have since been collected. The bat specialist explains exactly which ones, using the Szczecin Lagoon Nature Park (Am Stettiner Haff) as an example.
For more than seven years now, the nature parks of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern have been involved in bat research and have been conducting a monitoring program developed by the State Office for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Geology of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The calls of bats are recorded in a wide variety of habitats using listening boxes and then processed and evaluated centrally.
The evaluation is in the hands of Martin Post, who has been managing the data avalanches since the beginning, processing them into readable data sets and deriving usable statements from these data sets.
Mr. Post will present how exactly the monitoring works and which species have already been discovered in which habitats as part of the Winter Academy on 14 March 2024 at 18:00 in the visitor information center of the Am Stettiner Nature Park.
All interested parties are cordially invited to follow the exciting presentation.
