Reading for Women's Day
The year 2025 marks the 125th anniversary of the writer Anna Seghers' birth.
Anna Seghers is known to most people for "Transit" and "The Seventh Cross", but it is worth taking a look at her "women's stories".
The actress INGA BRUDEREK reads from the series LESEZEICHEN! "Der Ausflug der toten Mädchen", "Das Schilfrohr", "Marie geht in die Versammlung" and other stories.
Her female characters are among the most impressive in Anna Segeher's work: Marie Ziegler, Agathe Schweigert, Katharina, Marta Emrich or Luisa from Haiti. Their stories span centuries. They tell of their hunger for life and longing for happiness, of endangered love, of the courage to be human and remain true to themselves. They are stories of courageous women; of women who refuse to take on the role assigned to them. But also of women who accept their joyless existence without doing anything.
These women are not heroines, they live an unspectacular, ordinary fate like countless others. In the strength of the weak, they preserve their dignity, even when they are crushed by the political terror of their time.
The actress Inga Bruderek gives these literary figures a voice and brings them to life for an evening...
LESEZEICHEN! is a series organized by müritz.buch and the Haus des Gastes.
