"And yet and despite all this, one day people will NOT live like brothers"
Exhibition by Polish artist Hubert Czerepo
The title of the exhibition by Polish artist Hubert Czerepok "And yet and despite all this, one day people will NOT live like brothers" paraphrases Maxim Gorky's famous quote, which he wrote in 1922 during his stay at Villa Irmgard in Heringsdorf.
The exhibition brings together drawings based on photographs of events that took place 100 years apart: the massacre in Butscha and archive images of the famine in Ukraine (Holodomor), which took the lives of several million Ukrainians. By harking back to the past, the artist reveals that history always repeats itself twice.
Czerepok's light sculptures will also be on display at the Villa "Irmgard" museum, including the astonishingly topical neon sign "Americans, I am afraid of" from 2016.
