Ines Baumgart presents objects made of different materials. The bodies and fragments she creates are based on everyday life and nature.
Art has been the constant motivation of artist Ines Baumgart (*1962) since childhood. Her central themes are forms and spaces as well as their interplay, based, among other things, on conditions found in everyday life, in nature or in certain cultures. She is often unable to fully comprehend the development of an object - it emerges, as she says, from deep within, with the help of her gut feeling. Ines Baumgart processes materials from everyday use, both industrially produced and handcrafted, and combines them into complete bodies or fragments. The materials she uses include paper, animal wool, cotton, metal bands, wire, ropes and cords.
Ines Baumgart was born in Güstrow, but has lived and worked in Leichlingen and Cologne (NRW) for many years. Thanks to her family and friends, she has retained a close connection to her home town. She uses her visits to Güstrow to find new inspiration for her work in the surrounding nature. For her, the Wollhalle is a place of connection to her work, as in earlier times wool from the surrounding sheep farms was stored here, which was processed into threads, cloths and fabrics, and her works consist largely of these products as well as pure wool.
In her exhibition in the Wollhalle, Ines Baumgart would like to show, among other things, an expansive installation that she has created especially for the gallery space, possibly with the option of extending or changing it during the exhibition. Visitors can thus experience and accompany a particularly exciting work process directly on site.
